Writing a blog post and many more for your website is a crucial part of SEO and connecting with your potential customers. However, if you want your articles to be found in search engine results, there are certain things you need to do to help Google search bring them to the top. Here at R5 Website Management, we use this same formula for all of our SEO copywriting.
SEO Copywriting Best Practices
To keep your readability in check, headers should be no more than 1 line long. Sentences should be no longer than a line and a half. Paragraphs should be no more than 3-4 sentences. There should be no more than 2 paragraphs per header.
Here are a few SEO copywriting resources:
After you’ve completed keyword research, the keyword density should be no greater than 3%. Check your density with the SEO checker.
The readability score should be between 6-7 and no higher for the best results. Use the Hemingway App to check your readability and make changes.
Use easy to read words. Check hard to read words on Grammar Checker.
How to Use Headers Properly
Coding the headers on your website pages tells search engines like Google what the content is about. You will use only one Header 1 on the page. Header 1 is like the title of a book, there is only one. All main points in the content should be Header 2 and sub-points should be Header 3.
How to Choose a Relevant Blog Title
You will want to create a title and title tag that is being searched by users. In the blog post, you will use your headers to answer this question. Get relevant questions from Answer the Public by plugging the main keyword or focus of the page into the search results.
Best Format For Blogs
Introduce the blog topic with no more than 3 sentences. The keywords you are trying to target for organic traffic and want to rank for should appear in this section. Also, mention the name of the company you are writing for and the main location they serve.
Here is a look from our SEO copywriting guide at how you should format the rest of the blog.
1. First Part of The Answer to Your Question
This 3 sentence paragraph should talk in more detail about this answer.
Use bullet points to:
-Draw a reader’s eye
-Give a list of to-do’s
-Link to other valuable resources
-Avoid repetitive words in your bullet list.
Here is the wrong way to write bullets:
-Don’t write the word “don’t” in every bullet point.
-Don’t make the bullets too long.
-Do not be inconsistent with the format of how you write the point. Use periods on every point, or don’t.
Here is the best way to write bullets:
-Make the bullets concise.
-Be consistent with the format of how you write the point. Use periods on every point, or don’t use periods at all. Pick one and stick with it.
Write 2-3 sentences to wrap up the paragraph that sums up the bullet list. Think of this section as a mini-conclusion to what you highlighted.
2. Another Part of The Answer to The Title
Write 3 sentences explaining more detail of how this point answers the question. Drop down to a new paragraph and give 3 more sentences with specific examples.
Other Things You To Need To Know
A header 3 is a subpoint under a header 2 to expand on the point you are trying to make. If your explanation is getting long in one section, create a header 3. Use as many header 3’s and you need to make your point.
3. The Last Part of Your Answer
Write 3 sentences expounding on the third answer. If you need to explain further, drop down to a new paragraph and write another 3 sentences if need be to finish.
Call to Action (CTA)
Write a closing paragraph that wraps up the blog post and leads the reader to the action you want them to take. In this paragraph, make sure you use the target keyword one last time.
The last sentence should specifically instruct the reader on what to do next.
Here are a few examples:
-Sign up now
These are just a few of the prompts you can use to tell your audience what to do next. Also, make sure you link to your contact page or newsletter sign-up so they can get in touch with you. Make it as easy as possible for a reader to take the next step.
